Pierre Grimes and the Noetic Society

Overview

The Noetic Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group with members in Southern California and around the world, who have been inspired to study Homer, Parmenides, the pre-Socratics, Plato, the neo-Platonists, and other perennial philosophers and mystics, not for academic reasons, but for personal spiritual growth. The society was founded by Pierre Grimes, PhD in 1967, and was incorporated in 1978.

Synopsis Another great morning with Pierre, exploring dreams and enjoying Saturday morning coffees. We explore a dream from JeffL, then a state of mind of JulieP's, then a dream of Regina's. Dream Texts JeffL's Dream Malissa is spending the night with me in the same room. (separate beds) Then she climbs into bed with me from the opposite side of the room with no clothes. She says, “Oh you have boxer shorts on!” I say, back to her, “Girl I have an erection! If I take my shorts off do you...

Synopsis Another fun Saturday morning with Pierre. We warmed up with a little politics, and a discussion of how to break people (especially Trump-ites, but also entire societies) out of their heavy “belief” states. Then we dive into two dream explorations with JulieH and Eldar. (I was exhausted, so again, just an audio and some snapshots today, no video.) JulieH's dream exploration starts at about 0:34:15 (where I deleted about 10 minutes of silence while Pierre and the group read over her...

Dialogue(s): parmenides Chapters: hyp2 Sections: 151e-152a (P183-P187) Attendees: Pierre, Barbara, David, Regina, Nancy, JulieH, Eldar, Jed, JeffS Our study group continues where we left off a week ago, at 151e in the 2nd hypothesis of Plato's Parmenides dialogue. Pierre suggests we go back over the section we last read (151e-152a, P183-187), so we do. We discuss the "procession" word in P187, which has as its root the word, 'poros', as Barbara noted for us previously in our most...

Dialogue(s): parmenides Chapters: hyp1 Sections: 137d-138c (P1-P28) Attendees: Pierre, Barbara, JulieH, Regina, Eldar Our study group continues its task of moving through the statements Parmenides makes in his (1st) hypothesis of the One-Self. We are looking for a pattern in the references to 'One' and to 'Self' in order to see if we can discover how he thinks. While doing this, we reconsider some of the references to αυτο [You may want to just skip to 24:50, which is where they really get...
